Kenneth Wayne Ragan Sr.

RAGAN, Kenneth Wayne, Sr., 93, resident of Prattville, AL, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. He was born in Cuthbert, GA, in Randolph County on April 4, 1930. He married Mary Katherine Garner on July 3, 1951, and was happily married for over 66 years. Kenneth was the son of the late G. D. and Fannie Lee Ragan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Ragan; brother James Ragan; three sisters, Hazel Winfrey, Frances Sanders, and Hilda Fowler. He is survived by his four children, Kenneth Ragan, Jr., of Prattville, AL, Dale Ragan (Cherry) of Prattville, AL, Pamela Scott of Dothan, AL, and Roxanne Moore (David) of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Brian Moore (Chelsea), Payton Scott, and Ashley Moore; one great-grandson, Gavin Moore; numerous extended family and friends. Kenneth was a member of Camellia Baptist Church, a loving husband, father, and Papa. He spent 23 years in the U. S. Air Force, moving from Georgia to Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Mexico, California, England, Florida (three times), Alaska, Texas, Korea, Maryland, Thailand, and Mississippi before retiring to Prattville. He worked for 18 years at St. Jude Hospital (later Fairview Medical Center) in maintenance before beginning his own plumbing business which he operated until retirement in 2000. He enjoyed being outdoors and had a garden for many years, sharing the rattlesnake beans, corn, peas, tomatoes, figs, scuppernongs, and grapes with family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing things, and could always be found working on something. He was a true Fix-It Man. His latest creation was a stump grinder made from an edger and sawmill blades. He could often be found grinding down the above-ground tree roots and stumps from fallen trees for pure enjoyment. He was recently featured in the April 2023 issue of The Alabama Gazette. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from Prattville Memorial Chapel at 2:00 pm with Pastor James Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial directing. The family will receive friends on Monday one-hour prior to the service.
