Janet (Jeanette) Worley Taranto

It is with a heart of sadness, but full of love, that we announce the passing of Janet (Jeanette) Worley Taranto, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Janet passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026 at the age of 87 in her home in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The latter part of Janet’s life was spent as both an Interior Designer/Decorator and as a successful real estate agent with Kaiser Real Estate Sales, where she achieved Top Producer status and awards through much of her career there. Prior to her much loved work in real estate, she was an entrepreneur – owning and managing two successful interior design companies; Birmingham Interiors and Atlanta Interiors; followed by her creation of a successful restaurant, “Tastefully Tacky” on St. George Island, Florida. In Gulf Shores, she was an active member of the Baldwin County Association of Realtors, and she frequently held and hosted various fundraisers for causes dear to her heart. Janet loved her morning coffee and conversation, whether it be on the phone or in-person. She was a hardworking, loving woman of courage, dignity, and faith, who also loved to have fun. She raised 2 children as a single mother, but also managed to live life to the fullest. She played piano, was a passionate gardener and masterful cook. Many, who knew her indulged in one of her delicious homemade meals, deserts, hors d’oeuvres or tried her award-winning crab chowder at an event or at one of her beautiful homes. She loved discussing current events, real estate, or anything else that mattered, but more importantly, she loved creating beautiful environments where people could work, eat, live, love, talk, and laugh. She was a helper and guide for any family member or friend who needed her and for us, she was a larger than life. We will miss her greatly. Janet Taranto was preceded in death by her parents, James and Winona Worley; three sisters; Judith Worley, Priscilla Tyler, and Charlotte Turnipseed and brother Michael Worley. She is survived by her son, Butch Thompson (Julie) and her daughter, Tracey Cameron; five grandchildren, Rachel Thompson, Callie Cameron, Christian Cameron, Carson Cameron, and Clint Cameron; her brother, James M. Worley; and 4 beloved nieces. Visitation for Janet will be Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 12pm to 1pm at Prattville Memorial Chapel and Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Prattville, Alabama. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm with her nephew, Pastor Phillip Barnes officiating.
