Arthur Raymond Bridges

Arthur Raymond Bridges (92) of Prattville, AL, formerly of Bonaire, Georgia, went to be with the Lord after a brief illness on April 3, 2023. He was a compassionate and kind man with a servant’s heart; his generous spirit led him to be a strong advocate for those less fortunate. As a strong proponent of education, he often encouraged his family to further their educational pursuits to the fullest extent possible. He often said that education was the one thing in life that could never be taken away from you. He was born in Ellisville, Mississippi on December 15, 1930 and grew up in Carthage, MS. He graduated from Barnes High School as the salutatorian in 1949. After high school, he worked in construction before joining the US Air Force in 1951 and proudly served his country for 23 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. During his Air Force tenure, he was stationed in Georgia (3 times) , Newfoundland, Texas (twice), and the Philippine Islands. He also served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He met the love of his life, Helen Richardson Bridges, in 1953 and they married in 1954. They were married for 60 years before her passing in 2014. He was a devoted caregiver during his wife’s latest years. After his Air Force career, he worked for 29 years as a TV Repairman at Rama TV in Warner Robins, GA. He was a well respected TV serviceman during the time when these providers came to your house to fix your television. After moving to Prattville in 2013, he enjoyed many events with his family and friends. His love of cooking was enjoyed by all when he hosted home cooked meals. Arthur was known for his baking prowess, especially his homemade carrot cakes and chocolate chip cookies. He remained active with daily neighborhood walks and loved taking care of the family’s “furry friends.” He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Richardson Bridges of Prattville, AL formerly of Bonaire, GA, parents Willie James Bridges and Lille Mae Morgan Bridges of Carthage, MS, sisters Willie Mae Bridges Mounts of Marion, OH and Pauline Bridges of Carthage, MS, brother, Perry Hilburn Bridges of Wiggins, MS, and son-in-law, John Ebbett Baulch of Prattville, AL He is survived by his daughter, Beth Bridges Baulch of Prattville, AL, son, John Raymond Bridges and wife Heather of Lawrenceville, GA, grandchildren: Allison Baulch King and husband Matthew of Prattville, AL Brian Andrew Baulch and wife Samantha of Hoover, AL. and Grace Lee Bridges of Lawrenceville, GA, great grandchildren, Carson James King and Caroline Elizabeth King of Prattville, AL, and his brother, Forrest Melton Bridges and wife Janice of Philadelphia, MS A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, Prattville, AL at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Internment will be Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Edinburg Church of God Cemetery in Leake County, MS. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montgomery Area Food Bank or First Methodist Church of Prattville, AL
