Rupert Coleman Taylor

Rupert Coleman “Pete” Taylor died April 1, 2017, with his family by his side. Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn Lynn Taylor; first born daughter, JoAngelyn Marzano; son-in-law, Tony Marzano; father, Rupert C. Taylor; mother, Mary Smith Taylor Maddox; and step father, Ross Maddox. He is survived by his two daughters, Rebecca Taylor and Cathy Taylor Sowell (Randy); three grandchildren, Taylor Marzano, Katie Sowell, and Hank Sowell; sister Barbara Taylor Mattis; and several wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews. Pete was born November 24, 1935 in Dothan, Alabama, where he grew up and married his high school sweetheart Kathryn Lynn in 1954. He joined the Alabama Department of Public Safety in 1959. During his 32 years of devoted service to DPS, he moved through the ranks, serving as Captain of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and retiring as Major in the Administrative Division in 1991. Major Taylor was an integral figure throughout the State of Alabama and will be remembered as a well-respected, loyal, and honorable man. On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, a celebration of his life will be held at the Millbrook Church of the Nazarene, 3251 Browns Road in Millbrook Alabama. Visitation will take place from 12 noon until 2 p. with a service to follow at the church. Afterwards, a graveside service will take place at Prattville Memorial Gardens, 841 Fairview Avenue, in Prattville. Pallbearers will be the Alabama State Trooper Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Alabama State Troopers past and present; members of the Alabama Peace Officers Association; and law enforcement alike. Cathy and Rebecca would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many special relatives and friends who visited, called, and prayed for their father during his illness. Special recognition and thank you to the Taylor cousins; William Thames, Harold Hammond, Carl Wade, Glenn Foster, Betty Hagan, The McHenry Family, Pastor Jacob Snyder; friends and staff of The Gables Assisted Living; friends of Turtle Trace; and wonderful caregivers Shantell, Janice, Ella, Maxine, and Patricia, for their loyalty, kindness and respect for our most deserving father.
