February 13, 1931 - July 19, 2021
Helene Jane Tamson, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2021. She was born on February 13, 1931 to Floyd and Agnes (Skourup) Wilmoth in Colony, Kansas. She always felt her birth on Friday, the 13th was a good thing. She was married to Jim Tamson on August 25,1950. They shared a meaningful life together and celebrated their 60th anniversary prior to Jim’s passing on August 28, 2010. Helene was a wonderful mother who taught her children to love life, work hard and adopt personal responsibility in their lives. Her grandchildren remember her for the many visits where she bestowed the same values to them and they state she is the role model for their parenting. They say their shared time was “righteous”! She genuinely loved people and her entire life was focused on ensuring her family and friends knew they were loved and appreciated. Helene’s passion for all nature continued until the day she died! She was an excellent artist, a talent passed down from her mother, winning many awards for her paintings; giving many away as gifts to special friends. At 60, she was diagnosed with metastasized esophageal cancer and given a 5% chance, but God blessed her family and friends with her presence for thirty more years, a true gift. She loved games and played bridge throughout her life. She taught a group bridge at the Gillespie Senior Center and this group continues today. The Montgomery Council recognized Helene as a Senior of Achievement in 2002 on Aging. She loved gardening and became a Master Gardener; using her skills as volunteer for the Prattville Public Library. She was a member of the Prattville Arts Council, Art guilds in Prattville and Wetumpka, and was active in her support of local theater groups. Later in life she volunteered each week at the Hope in Action Thrift Store and volunteered at several local nursing homes. Helene and Jim travelled extensively and loved our great country. Her children remember planning the summer’s trip each year in January and the family, including several trips with her parents, were able to see the expansive United States. On their 50th anniversary, Helene and Jim celebrated with a two-month trip throughout the north and west. They traveled in Europe, including Greece and Italy, and shared lots of excitement on a trip throughout central and eastern Mexico. Helene is survived by two children; Teri (David) Baker and Tony (Jan) Tamson; four grandchildren, Matthew (Kat) Cuthbertson, Staci (Mark) Nardone, Andrew and Derek Tamson, six great-grandchildren, and several grandnephews and nieces. Helene taught her children that “actions speak louder than words” and she always lived up to the standard she passed to her children. She will be missed, but we are so thankful God gave her life.
