June 26, 1931 - December 30, 2020
BETTY JOYCE CARGILL HUBERT Betty Joyce Cargill Hubert, 89, of Prattville, AL, left this world for Heaven on December 30, 2020, with her family at her side after an extended illness. She was born to the late Ed Brown (EB) and Bertie Cargill on June 26, 1931 in Prattville, AL. Betty grew up in Prattville, AL and McColl, SC and graduated from Autauga County High School in 1949. Betty was an avid basketball player and a South Carolina beauty queen. Betty married the late William Lex (WL) Hubert of Prattville, AL on June 18, 1949 and celebrated fifty years of marriage before Mr. Hubert passed in 2001. Betty is survived by three children: Louie Hubert (Patty) of Prattville, AL, Sandra Hubert Folsom of Prattville, AL and Tiffany Hughes (Robert) of Millbrook, AL. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Lindsey Canada (Jason), Blake Hubert, Meredith Bartley (Ron), and Ryan Folsom, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild with one on the way. Three of those great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brady and Landry Hughes, shared a special relationship and most of their days with their Nanny either at her house, with Nanny at their house or on family trips and were with her until the end. She is also survived by her niece, Brenda Cargill Cook of Montgomery, AL and nephew, Jim Wrape Jr. of the Huntsville, AL area. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Pauline Cargill Wrape, her brother, Enoch Cargill and numerous aunts and uncles. It’s impossible to sum up our mama and her well-lived life in a few paragraphs. She is and was the most remarkable woman that we will ever know or love, and no matter what we write for future generations to remember her by, the words will never do her life justice. Mama was a quiet, gentle spirit with an old soul.. She had answers to everything- whether she really did or not. She could comfort you when nobody else could with just a few words. Mama did everything with a grace that doesn’t exist in the present day, and we couldn’t be more proud of the woman that she was. Mama’s first job was at a pharmacy in downtown Prattville in her teens. Mama worked with Daddy in his Gulf oil distribution business for several years, but the job she was most proud of was her job as a mother and a homemaker. If you ask anybody who knew her, they’d tell you she was known for wearing her aprons, for her southern cooking and for not smiling in pictures. Those hands that loved on us, prayed for us, clapped for us, and fed us, made at least a million batches of the best biscuits you’ve ever tasted. Not one of us can remember a night that Mama didn’t get on her knees by her bed, bow her head and pray not only for the ones she loved but for the ones that were hard to love. She taught every one of us a faith that didn’t waiver, not only by the words that she spoke, but the life that she lived. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Prattville, AL. We are losing our best friend, our biggest fan, our closest ally and the first love of our lives, but we also know that she’s been living and working for this day to meet Jesus all of her life and is finally healed. The very second that mama left us, the most beautiful golden light came through the window, enveloped the room and left as quickly as it came. We knew right then that she was safe and had made it home. While we are heartbroken and don’t know how to live without her physically here, the lessons she taught us and memories she made for us and with us will last for generations to come. Mrs. Hubert’s graveside service and entombment will take place at Prattville Memory Gardens on January 2, 2021 at 1pm with Dr. Travis Coleman officiating. There will be no visitation because mama would scream if she knew people were looking at her and we can’t have that happening in Heaven. Pallbearers are Coleman Hunter, Bruce Williams, Caleb Florea, Zach Hughes, Wes Roberts and Joey Holley. www.prattvillememorial.com
