William Edward Epperson

EPPERSON, William “Bill” E., 80, resident of Deatsville, AL, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Cheryl; daughter, Pamela Epperson; son, Will (Cindy); grandchildren, Shelby and William. Bill was born on July 3, 1944 in Centralia, Illinois. In high school he toured Europe for 3 weeks with the School Bank of America. At Millikin University (Decatur, Illinois) he was only student ever to be voted president of his freshman, sophomore and junior classes, president of student senate and student body, as well as being active in young republicans. He also began dating Cheryl Thompson who he married in 1966. After graduation, Bill joined the Air national Guard and entered the banking industry First Alabama (now Regions) Bank. He became the Vice-President of Commercial Banking within 3 years. Retired after 20 years, joining First Montgomery Bank as Executive Vice-President (EVP), also EVP when Aliant Bank took over. After 10 years, he left Aliant Bank to become a stockbroker re-entering banking as Vice-President of Commercial Banking at Bank of Prattville for 5 years. Civil Affairs with Montgomery County Republican Committee executive for 10 years, Chairman Montgomery County Chamber Committee, President Montgomery Sales and Marketing Executives, President Lighthouse Counseling Center, Alabama Easter Seals Society state board for 20 years (16 years as treasurer and 2 two-year terms as president). He was also active in the National Society based in Chicago attending many conventions in major cities on an annual basis. One of his most proud accomplishments was being one of six people who wrote the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was quickly adopted by the White House and passed by Congress. Bill continued his music, performing regularly at The Museum of Fine Arts as well as on Alabama Public TV. Most notably he was a member of the 151st Alabama Army National Guard for 12 years. In his last 7 years, he was 1st Sergeant and enlisted band leader. In his last year, the band was selected the best guard band in the country and spent 2 weeks at West Point, New York replacing the US Army Band. The 2 weeks concluded with the band playing a concert at Rockfeller Center. Bill and Cheryl also travelled a lot, visiting 42 states and 21 countries, many as least twice. Bill was a member of the sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He attended CenterPoint Church in Prattville.
