Gloria Ann Jennings

It is with great sadness and sorrow for her children to announce the death of our beloved mother, Gloria Ann Jennings, a resident of Prattville, Alabama, who passed away in angel’s arms on July 25, 2018. Gloria, age 77, was born on October 14, 1940 to humble beginnings in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Gloria was a wonderful mother, mentor, daughter and friend to all. She became life time friends with all she met. She graduated from Holt High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1959 and then married the love of her life, Johnny Mack Jennings in January, 1960 at the age of 19. She was his wife, partner and near the end of his life, on August 1, 2014, his constant caregiver. Her daughter Marsha Jennings predeceased her suddenly one month later on September 1, 2014. Gloria was a beautiful woman and had a full, wonderful life and a heart of compassion and love. She was independent, self-sufficient and strong willed. She loved history and attended Troy University in her thirties while raising her four children. She was employed by Kinder Care for several years and sold Mary Kay Cosmetics. She was a past President of Spinners Club, a master gardener as well as a member of GLUS (Goodwill). She also established and owned a Welcome Wagon for new residents of Prattville for many years before moving to Savannah, Georgia in 1983. While in Savannah she became the Executive Director of the Riverfront Association. This organization was in charge of all that occurred on Savannah’s famed River Street, from Octoberfest to First Saturday’s and many more events she coordinated and worked. While holding this position for several years, she fought and defeated breast cancer – never missing more than a few days of work. Later in life she also fought and defeated colon cancer. Upon being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, several weeks ago, and told that her earthly life was short lived, she immediately said to her children, “Do not have a pitty party. I have not cried about this and I don’t want you to cry about it either”. A true Steel Magnolia. She was about to see Jesus! While in Savannah, she walked into an herb and vitamin shop to supplement her breast cancer treatments. She was quickly drawn from the activities of River Street and recruited and promoted with Natures Sunshine. When she and Johnny Mack moved back to the Montgomery area, she owned and operated “the Herb Shop” for many years. When her husband suffered his first stroke, she sold her shop and devoted her life to his remaining years to his care and well-being. She was predeceased by her husband, Johnny Mack Jennings, her daughter Marsha Jennings, her grandchildren, Kyle McKenty and John Hayden Countryman and her “precious” mother Marie Clary, father Jack Clary and many close friends and relatives. She is survived by her children Cindy (Cline) Countryman, Sharon Jennings, Gary (Kim) Jennings. Her grandchildren Tyler Countryman, Jordan (Neysa) Countryman, Mallory (Miles) Powell, Joseph and Joshua Jennings, great grand children Logan and Mason Lunsford, brother Jack (Gail) Clary, sister-in-law Gail (Wade) West, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Prattville Memory Gardens with visitation one hour prior. There will be no viewing. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and Mike Hill and Miles Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald and Virginia McGough, Don and Carolyn Maness, Gail and Wade West, David Allen, Evelyn Wiley, Carolyn Brown, Debbie Hanson and “Skeeter.” Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
